NORTH MANCHESTER - Wallace E. Ulrey, 86, of North Manchester, died at 10:52 p.m. Sept. 27, 2009, in his residence.

He was born Sept. 30, 1922, in Servia, to Floyd and Vallie Partridge Ulrey. On Nov. 2, 1941, he married Rosaline L. Howard, who survives.

He worked at Heckman Bindery, North Manchester, for 30 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of New Hope United Church of Christ, Bippus, and formerly Servia United Church of Christ. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II, from November 1943 to December 1945, spending most of his duty tour in Guam. He was a member of the North Manchester Garden Club. He was a volunteer for the Red Cross Blood Bank since 1947, and served as chairman for 10 years. He was an active blood donor, donating 28 gallons of blood over the years.

Surviving are three sons: David (and spouse Paula) Ulrey, Fort Wayne; Stephen (and spouse Mary Jane) Ulrey, North Manchester; and Jerald (and spouse April Lynn) Ulrey, Swannanoa, N.C.; a sister, Bonnie (and spouse Robert) Kreider, North Manchester; seven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, a sister and a granddaughter.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Friday at McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, with Pastor Larry Holderbaum officiating.

Calling is one hour prior to service Friday at the funeral home.
