Wagon Wheel Theatre Presents 'Gypsy'

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

By Staff Report-

Loosely based on the 1957 memoirs of the famous striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee and her mother Rose comes the musical “Gypsy.”
The most famous stage mom in show business, Mama Rose, will be dancing into the Wagon Wheel Theatre Wednesday through July 12.
Gypsy tells the story of a mother, Mama Rose, a beyond-determined stage mom trying to make her daughters into vaudeville performers. But when Baby June would rather be a wife than a performer, it’s Baby Louise’s turn to take the spotlight. But who’s really the star, Mama Rose or Baby Louise?
Guest director and Wagon Wheel Theatre alumn Tony Humrichouser directs what has become known as one of the greatest American musicals of all time, according to the press release from the theater. Humrichouser’s Wagon Wheel Theatre directing credits include “State Fair,” “Carousel” and “The Nerd.” He is thrilled to be back at the Wagon Wheel Theatre and said, “Although I have college degrees from two prestigious academic institutions – the Wagon Wheel Theatre has been responsible for much of my continued professional training and development.”
Joining Humrichouser in his return to the Wagon Wheel Theatre is Carrie McNulty playing the iconic role of Mama Rose. McNulty said, ”I feel truly fortunate to come back and play this iconic role, directed by one of my best friends, at a theater and community I share a rich history with. This is an experience I will hold close to my heart and the support of the team both past and present at the Wheel has been amazing.”
Tickets for Gypsy range from $15 to $34. Discounts are available for college students and on designated performances for seniors. For more information, visit www.wagonwheeltheatre.org or call the box office at 574-267-8041.[[In-content Ad]]
