Wagon Wheel Offers Summer Youth Orchestra Workshop
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
By Staff Report-
The theater will hold a summer youth workshop pit orchestra for “Honk.”
“Honk” was the winner of the 2000 Oliver Award, the British version of the Tony Award, for Best New Musical.
Students who have an interest in performance music will be rewarded with the opportunity to work with professional musicians in a pit orchestra setting and become a part of the theater’s inaugural year of program expansions at The Wagon Wheel Theatre.
This is a free opportunity with a minimal materials fee for a copy of their music that they will get to keep. Students should have a positive attitude, be eager to work hard and be ready to learn what it takes to become a professional musician.
The theater is searching for students who play the following instruments: flute/piccolo, clarinet/bass clarinet, alto saxophone/baritone saxophone, trumpet, French horn, cello, bass and/or electric bass, electric/acoustic guitar and percussion.
Auditions will be held at the Wagon Wheel Theatre by appointment on the following dates: May 20, 4 to 8 p.m.; May 21, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.; and May 28, 1 to 6 p.m.
Auditioning at a time other than during the times listed will probably not be possible.
Students who are interested in auditioning should have a parent or guardian email Thomas Stirling, musical supervisor of Wagon Wheel Theatre, at [email protected] to schedule an audition time no later than Monday.
Audition times will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis. If all audition slots fill up, an audition time can not be guaranteed, so contact soon to secure a time slot. Be sure to include the student’s name, contact phone number, instrument(s), and all available times to allow flexibility in scheduling the audition. Students will be scheduled for an approximate 15-minute time block.
Audition requirements include the student must be finishing ninth through 12th grade; must perform a prepared solo up to seven minutes in length with no accompaniment; percussionists must be comfortable on a drum set; students should be comfortable with most major key signatures.
There will be sightreading at the audition.
Any other special instructions will be given out when the audition is scheduled.
Students must be available for most – if not all – the group rehearsals, which will be scheduled between June 11 and July 14.
The one and only performance is July 14 at 1 p.m.
A rehearsal schedule will be available upon request for an audition time.[[In-content Ad]]
