Wagon Wheel Executive Director Dawson Leaves For '700 Club'

The curtain has gone down on Executive Director Will Dawson’s time at the Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts, and the Center is looking for his replacement.
Dawson’s last day at the Wagon Wheel was Wednesday. He has moved with his family to Virginia Beach, Va., to be a writer and producer for “The 700 Club” on CBN, according to Wagon Wheel Marketing Director Ethan Sheckler.
John Hand, Wagon Wheel Board of Directors president, said Dawson had worked for the Christian television network for several years before coming to the Wagon Wheel. The network contacted Dawson and made him an offer to return that was too good to pass on, Hand said.
Dawson became the Wagon Wheel’s executive director Nov. 1 2014, taking over from Bruce Shaffner. The theater became a not-for-profit in January 2012, and Dawson was serving as Wagon Wheel director at that time.
Hand said Holly Lantz will serve as interim director while Dawson’s replacement is being sought.
Lantz said she started with the Wagon Wheel in May 2015 as the bookkeeper and assistant to Dawson.
As interim director, Lantz said, “I’m basically taking over his role, and keeping the operations side of it going, as well as doing my other role, which was the bookkeeping aspect of it.”
She said everything is continuing to run as normal. “That is our game plan through the summer,” she said. “Our focus is on ensuring that the shows are getting up and running, and continuing the high quality of performances.”
Lantz said her undergraduate degree is in performing arts, and she has a master’s degree in performing arts management. She said she has a background in “corporate America” in finance, systems and other aspects.
“It’s kind of well-rounded for what we’re doing here as well,” she said.
Through an ad on LinkedIn and word of mouth, Hand said the executive committee has received several resumes. The interview process will start about the first week of August, Hand said.
He estimated that it may take about a month to find Dawson’s replacement.
Hand said Dawson “did a super job. We were disappointed he left. He will be hard to replace.”
Lantz said, “We are pushing forward with the same plan and keeping things running as normal. You shouldn’t see any difference.”[[In-content Ad]]
