“What we didn’t know is that a show would become available to us that we simply could not pass up,” he said.
Near the end of December, the Wagon Wheel staff received word from a large licensing house that “Shrek, The Musical” would be available for regional theaters beginning in June. Until this point, the show was only available through the national tour.
“As with any show, you haven’t really seen it until you’ve seen it in the round,” said Dawson.
“Our premiere production team is currently working on, what will be extravagant costuming and a very large dragon that is integral to this wonderful musical. ‘Shrek, The Musical’ will be one of those memorable theatrical experiences that you will never forget. You will want to bring your kids, grandkids, neighbors kids, your inner kid … you get the point. You will not be disappointed,” said Dawson.
As a result, the theater does have to drop one show. The first show of the season is typically the Wagon Wheel Theatre’s kids/family show which means they will not be producing “Seussical.” Considering “Seussical” was last at the Wagon Wheel in 2006, it gives the season one more new show. The Wagon Wheel Theatre now boasts three brand new shows to bring you this season.
The 2013 lineup is as follows: “Shrek, The Musical,” June 5-15; “9 To 5 The Musical,” June 19-29; “Hello, Dolly!”, July 3-13; “The Wedding Singer,” July 17-27; “The Nerd,” July 31-Aug. 10; and “Forever Plaid,” Aug. 14-24.
“We are committed to bringing you the newest possible shows, while adding in some classic favorites every year,” said Dawson.
