By STAFF AND AP REPORTS-

The husband of a murdered Milford woman has been charged in New York with larceny and faces additional charges in Kosciusko County for allegedly writing bad checks to his landlord.

William Vroman, 32, is accused of stealing at least $2,200 from the Herrings Village Fire Department in upstate New York. A warrant for Vroman was issued Wednesday. Charges also were filed this morning in Kosciusko Circuit Court against Vroman for check fraud, according to Kosciusko County Prosecutor Chuck Waggoner. That charge results from Vroman allegedly writing a nonsufficient funds check for his rent and involves $400 to $500, Waggoner said.

William Vroman is the former fire chief at the Herrings Village Fire Department. His wife, Kathy Vroman, 48, was the department secretary.

Kathy Vroman's body was found partially buried in the snow Jan. 26 near Three Rivers, Mich., police said.

Kosciusko County authorities say Vroman's boss shot her with a semiautomatic pistol Jan. 15 at the Country Car Co. in Milford, where she worked, then enlisted help in disposing of the body. The Vromans moved from New York to Milford in early January.

Jason M. Fisher, 22, Millersburg, is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on a charge of murder. His bond was originally set at $1 million and has since been revoked.

Four other people, including William Vroman, also have been charged in the case. All the suspects worked at Country Car Co., court documents state.

Fisher's father, Ralph Fisher, 46, is charged with assisting a criminal and unlawful movement of a body.

Ralph Fisher said his son told him he shot Kathy Vroman at the car lot, affidavits said. The father then told his son how to dispose of the body and remove bloodstains from the scene, according to court documents.

William Vroman is charged with burglary. George W. Aldrich, 28, of Etna Green is charged with burglary and auto theft, and Lawrence Grant, 29, of Shipshewana is charged with auto theft, unlawful movement of a body and assisting a criminal.

The theft and burglary charges against Grant, Aldrich and William Vroman stem from a December theft of several vehicles from Rice Ford in Warsaw, Waggoner said. One of those vehicles, a 2001 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer edition 4X4, was recovered Thursday in Dunlap, where Indiana State Police found it by following a tip received from an undisclosed source. The vehicle was repainted from its original color and had an altered vehicle identification number, according to a police report at the Warsaw Police Department. [[In-content Ad]]
