Vote For Donnelly

Much has been made here of Democratic candidate for U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly’s congressional voting record. We should take a closer look at the reasons behind the bills he has voted for.
Obamacare is actually called the “Affordable Healthcare Act” because healthcare is not affordable without insurance, that is unless you are wealthy. To that regard healthcare is a luxury. For it to be as far out of reach as it is for many Americans is wrong. With high-paying, benefit-including jobs going to China, there is little left but the low-end retail and service industry jobs that do not offer benefits. Someone making $200 a week having to spend $200 to see a doctor for five minutes is obscene. These people go without and suffer greatly or go to the emergency room and then don’t pay the bill. Then those who can afford insurance still wind up shouldering the costs of those who can’t. This problem, in combination with the future of Medicare, meant something had to be done.
The law, which will go into effect 2013, is a start. No one says we can’t amend it, change it or improve upon it once we find out what works and what doesn’t. It started out with the approval of the insurance industry, the pharmaceutical industry and many Republicans. So Joe Donnelly voted for it. Well, shame on him for wanting to give sick people healthcare. Shame on him for trying to reign in the fraud and waste that plague Medicare. Shame on him for trying to convert a system of fee for service to a system of fee for outcomes and hold doctors accountable for their performance. So is the answer to trainwreck the progress we have made and put the whole thing back where Richard Mourdock wants it to be ... unaffordable and broken?
To answer other charges, I can assure you that the orthopedic industry is doing well. They are tooling up, hiring workers and struggling to meet current demand. There is going to be a boom to meet the needs of 30 million more people with healthcare coverage.
TARP, started under the Bush administration, has been a success and GM and Chrysler have paid back their loans with interest. The stimulus went a long way to jump start a green energy industry and help reduce our dependency on foreign oil. Fracking technology has created a natural gas industry boom and we are actually exporting to other countries. Housing starts in September grew at the fastest rate since July 2008 and the DOW has risen above 13,000 and stayed there, showing resilience to many negative pressures.
Somewhere along the line I would say somebody has done something right. I would include Joe Donnelly in that and defend his voting record. Help eliminate Washington gridlock and vote Joe Donnelly, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senator.
