Hundreds of volunteers rolled up their sleeves Wednesday during United Way’s Day Of Action.
The day, previously called Day Of Caring, included approximately 600 volunteers who painted at Warsaw, Tippecanoe Valley and Wawasee schools.
Participants included employees of Kosciusko Community Hospital, Zimmer, RR Donnelly, Azko Nobel, DePuy, Old National, Zimmer, Paragon, Bowen Center, Housing Opportunities of Warsaw, Chore Time Brock, Lake City Bank and Bart’s Water Sports.
Craig Kuhn and Eric Gibbs, RR Donnelly employees, painted Eisenhower Elementary gymnasium Wednesday with 12 other Donnelly employees.
“I like to help out the community, and to be able to do it with my co-workers is even better,” Kuhn said.
Gibbs said his children may attend Eisenhower Elementary one day and they will be able to see his and his coworker’s work.
Tracy Fitzgerald, RR Donnelly shipping and logistics member and team leader, said the employees were happy to participate.
“I think anytime you can get out into the community and do some good it makes you feel good, and there are a lot of skilled people here who have been looking forward to the day to help the school look better,” Fitzgerald said.
Andy Jacobs, DePuy employee, painted a hallway wall at Eisenhower Elementary with his co-workers.
“It’s a great day for all of us to get out into the community and be able to give back,” Jacobs said.
Allison Alderfer, Azko Nobel team leader, said there were seven employees from Azko participating in Day of Action.
“We live in the community and are part of the community, and it’s always nice to give back,”Alderfer said.
Aaron Clevenger and Brendan Crisman, Azko Nobel employees, also painted a wall in Eisenhower’s hallway.
“It feels good to give back to the community,” Crisman said.
“It’s nice to help schools in the area. My mom worked for schools when I was growing up so it’s nice to fix them up,” Clevenger said.
Old National and DePuy employees volunteered by painting restrooms and the nurse’s clinic at Eisenhower Elementary.
Chris Gensinger, Eisenhower Elementary School principal, said he is thankful for the volunteers.
“It’s a gift to us. We have been here about 25 years and these walls haven’t been touched with paint since then,” Gensinger said.
Molly Hickle, Old National employee and team leader, said there were three employees who participated.
“It’s nice we have the opportunity to do something for the community,” Hickle said.[[In-content Ad]]
