AKRON - Virginia Lou Leininger, 82, of 815 E. Rochester St., Akron, died at 8:52 p.m. Aug. 26, 2010, in her residence.

She was born June 24, 1928, in Indianapolis, to William Wayne and Pauline Francis Elsasser Harkins. On Dec. 28, 1948, in Rochester, she married Byron P. Leininger.

Living in Rochester since 1948, she graduated from Howe High School in 1946, and from St. Vincent School of Nursing. She worked at Wabash Hospital, Woodlawn Hospital and private duty nursing. Along with her husband, she owned and operated the Akron Locker Plant. She was a past member of Order of the Eastern Star, Akron.

Also surviving are a son, Greg V. (and spouse Janet) Leininger, Wabash; a daughter, Anne A. (and spouse Jay) Dietrich, Highland Park, Ill.; a brother, David (and spouse Margaret) Harkins, Sellersburg; four grandchildren: Alexis (and spouse Gary) Young, North Manchester; Ian Leininger, Wabash; and Atticus and Emily Dietrich, both of Highland Park; two step grandchildren, Michael and Ashley McGriff, Wabash; and a great-grandchild, Lincoln Young, North Manchester. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Scott Leininger; and a sister, Shirley Lott.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Earl-Love Funeral Home, 811 E. Rochester St., Akron. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery.

Calling is from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
