SAVANNAH, Tenn. – Virginia Karen Coon, 73, of Savannah, Tenn., formerly of Warsaw, died Oct. 5, 2011.
She was born Sept. 9, 1938, in Warsaw, to William “Bill” Paul and Mary Alice McConnell Dill. On Aug. 2, 1963, she married James W. Jobe II, who died March 1, 1971. On Sept. 11, 1972, she married George M. Coon, who died June 22, 2003.
She was a member of the Wabash St. United Methodist Church. In Savannah, she attended HMC Health and Rehab. She was a member of the Moose Lodge in Wabash and held an office with them. She was retired, but worked previously for General Telephone in Wabash, which later became AT&T, as telephone operator; canvas tarp and medical wrap seamstress in Andrews; restaurant manager for the Steer Inn in Silver Lake; seamstress for Garan Manufacturing in Adamsville, Tenn. In June 2005, she became a resident of HMC Health and Rehab. During her stay at the nursing home, she became president of the Resident Council.
She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca L. Purvis and Sarah K. Short, both of Adamsville, Tenn.; two sons, Keith H. Dill, Maine, and James W. Jobe III, Indiana; three stepdaughters: Barbara Young, Rochester, N.Y.; Trisha Smith and Sheila Brown, both of Indiana; two stepsons, Rick (and spouse Christy) Coon and Todd Allen, both of Indiana; 12 grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 17 step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ted (and spouse Linda) Dill, Wabash. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, a stepson, two brothers, a sister and a granddaughter.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Shackelford Chapel, Savannah, Tenn., with Eric Jones officiating. Burial will be at Mars Hill Cemetery at Adamsville.[[In-content Ad]]
