NAPPANEE - Virgil O. Stump Jr., 90, of 953 John St., Nappanee, died at 4:10 a.m. June 11, 2010, in Mason Health & Rehab, Warsaw, from injuries suffered in a bicycle accident.

He was born Feb. 11, 1920, in Gravelton, to Virgil O. and Dottie Brumbaugh Stump. On Nov. 2, 1937, in Nappanee, he married Pansy Biller, who died Dec. 26, 2002.

He lived in Sebring, Fla., from 1984-2000. He was a retired truck driver and also drove a bread truck and school bus. He was a World War II U.S. Marine, serving in the South Pacific. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, both in Nappanee.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda (and spouse Fred) Hockert, Nappanee; a son, Jack (and spouse Anita) Stump, Silver Lake; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Francis (and spouse Arnold) Dallman, Naples, Fla. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Services will be at 6 p.m. today at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, with Denny Bollenbacher officiating. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery with a military graveside service.

Calling is from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
