Veterans Day Events Planned In County

Veterans Day is Wednesday.
American Legion Post 49, Warsaw, is planning a Veterans Day program open to the public Wednesday. The program begins at 10:15 a.m. at Center Lake Pavilion, 119 E. Canal St., Warsaw.[[In-content Ad]]Music will be performed by the Kosciusko County Extension Chorus at 10:15 a.m.
David Sisk, American Legion Post 49 commander, will provide a welcome at 10:45 a.m.
American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126 Honor Guard will post colors at 10:50 a.m.
The bells will toll at 10:55 a.m.
An invocation will be said by Chaplain Tom Everett at 11 a.m.
Mike Davis, American Legion Department of Indiana Northern vice commander, will give a Veterans Day speech.
Ken Locke, Salvation Army, will present the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 49 Order of Kosciuszko award. The annual award is given to recognize a veteran that has provided exceptional service to God, country and others in the spirit of Thaddeus Kosciuszko, a Revolutionary War hero.
A 21-gun salute and "Taps" will conclude the ceremony.
Immediately following the ceremony, American Legion Post 49, 301 N. Buffalo St., Warsaw, will re-open at noon with a free lunch for all legionnaires from noon to 3 p.m. The post will be opened to the American Legion family at 3 p.m.
Ameriprise Financial Services Inc., Warsaw, has volunteered to sponsor an evening meal for all veterans. The meal will be prepared by American Legion Auxiliary Unit 49 and will be served from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Legion. The evening meal will consist of turkey, ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, dressing, green beans, bread and butter and pie for dessert.
Pierceton American Legion Post 258, Ind. 13, will have a carry-in dinner Wednesday at 1 p.m. for Legion veterans.
Ceremonies are being planned at various cemeteries Wednesday. Ceremonies will be at 8:30 a.m. at Oswego Cemetery, 9 a.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery, 9:30 a.m. at Salem Cemetery, 10 a.m. at Mock Cemetery and at 11 a.m. at North Webster Cemetery.
There will be a program Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. at North Webster Elementary School and a program at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 11 at American Legion Post 253, North Webster, Ind. 13.
A Veterans Day program that is open to the public will be Wednesday from 1:30 to 2:50 p.m. at Warsaw Community High School Tiger Den.
Guest speaker is David Hoffert, former WCHS teacher and current Northfield High School principal. Hoffert will speak about the book "Final Chapters" that was published last year through the efforts of the students and WWII veterans.
Keynote speaker is Dr. Paul Grossnickle, one of the many WWII veterans who are featured in the book published last spring.
The Warsaw Middle School band and choir departments will present its Veterans Day concerts Wednesday at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. in the Lakeview Middle School gymnasium.
The concerts will feature the Edgewood Middle School and Lakeview Middle School advanced bands, and Lakeview and Edgewood middle schools combined choirs. The concerts are free and the public is invited to attend.
Madison Elementary will hold its annual Veterans Day program Wednesday in the school's gymnasium that is open to the public.
Sacred Heart Elementary School will have a Veterans Day program at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Golden Corral, Warsaw, will offer a free meal to any veteran Nov. 16 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
