NORTH MANCHESTER – Vernon J. “Jack” Lance, 75, of North Manchester, died at 4:57 a.m. Feb. 4, 2012, in Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester.

He was born Sept. 30, 1936, in Marion, to Arvol L. and Flossie B. Hartzler Lance. On Jan. 9, 1966, he married Nancy L. Amstutz, who survives.

He worked for the Social Security Administration for 17 years. He was former co-owner, with his brother, Ivan, of Highland Hills Golf Course, North Manchester, for many years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He graduated from Gilead High School in 1954, attended Findley (Ohio) College and finished his education in the Philippines where he received a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

Surviving are a son, Jay L. (and spouse Wendy) Lance, Lititz, Pa.; three daughters: Cynthia E. Lance, Antioch, Calif.; Cara R. (and spouse Tom) Whiting, Wheaton, Ill.; and Amanda Lance, Fort Wayne; two brothers, Don Lance, Warsaw, and Ivan Lance, North Manchester; two sisters, Carolyn Cook, Indianapolis, and Beverly Coplend, North Manchester; and 10 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Congregational Christian Church, North Manchester, with Pastor Sebrena Cline officiating.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at McKee Mortuary,  North Manchester, and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
