MENTONE - Velma M. Lantz, 77, formerly of Mentone, died at 8:15 p.m. Jan. 26, 2011, in Miller's Merry Manor, where she was a resident for three years.

She was born March 30, 1933, in Warsaw, to Chester and Hildreth Blackford Coplen. On Feb. 17, 1956, in Mentone, she married Victor M. Lantz, who died Aug. 4, 1993.

She had worked at Cooper's Store, Mentone, and had done janitorial work at the church. She was a member of Mentone First Baptist Church and enjoyed attending the Mentone Nutrition Site. She loved knitting and crocheting, filling in puzzles and playing Dominos and Bingo. She graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1951.

Surviving are two sons, Victor Martin "Marty" Lantz Jr., Sandston, Va., and Van M. (and spouse Patsy) Lantz, Syracuse; a sister, Donna (and spouse John) Mellott, Etna Green; seven grandchildren: Wesley Lantz, Warsaw; Jeremy (and spouse Stacey) Lantz, Brownsburg; Diann (and spouse John) Brewer, Garret; Mandy, Mark and Christine Lantz, all of Sandston, and Vanessa Lantz, Syracuse; two step-grandchildren: Erin (and spouse Kevin) Miller and Andrea (and spouse Wes) Maier, both of Goshen; eight great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Chester, who died in 2000, and her mother, Hildreth, who died in 2003.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with the Rev. Michael Wilhite officiating. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery.

Calling is from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
