Vaping Seminar

I am hoping that the Times-Union is planning to cover the town hall meeting at city hall at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
It is being billed as an informational meeting to give information on the dangers of e-cigarettes and is sponsored by Kosciusko Community Hospital, K21 Health Foundation, Kosciusko County Health Department and Kosciusko County Tobacco Free Coalition. According to their press release and phone calls it seems they are not going to give any time for opposing information or viewpoints.
This is an issue with more than one side and there are going to be a significant number of people with pro-vaping outlooks attending that meeting in the hope of being heard. I am one of those people.
I was a smoker for over 54 years. I have chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder and asthma and sleep apnea. I used oxygen at night. I was as addicted to tobacco as anyone I’ve ever heard about and woke up in the middle of the night needing a smoke.
I tried virtually every smoking cessation method possible to no avail, including: nicotine gum and patches (which gave me hives and terrible nightmares), Chantix (which gave me suicidal thoughts,) acupuncture etc. Nothing worked for longer than 24 hours. Last June 10 my sister (who had quit four years ago using vaping) finally talked me into trying that. It was just after I had bought two cartons of Camels (a two-week supply) for about $110.00. I was willing to try it, but I was not optimistic about the results.
I haven’t had another cigarette since, and I still have those two unopened cartons. It wasn’t until a month or two later that I had spent as much on vaping as I had on those last two cartons. Vaping has worked for me. I no longer need to use oxygen and I no longer have coughing fits. I haven’t needed my rescue inhaler for months.
My doctor is both amazed and thrilled at my success. Maybe vaping is bad for me in the long run – I honestly don’t know. But I know for sure that it is far less toxic on my body than smoking was. It is also much less expensive than either tobacco or any other cessation method I tried.
I am hopeful you will cover the story and present both sides of this important issue.
Thank you,
