Value Added Tax

There are many times I think about writing to the Times-Union news. Then after reading Gary Gerard’s News View, I decide he has made my point and there is no need to repeat his comments. That goes for a whole host of issues like the other Republican candidates should step down soon to support one guy so we can all get behind him and win this next election. However, the one thing they are doing is cleaning up the ground now, so the Dems won’t have any unused ammo later down the road. We, the people, have a short memory, once the cat is out of the bag (or dog off the roof) we get over it.
This time I want to share an idea that could stimulate our economy in the future and that is what needs to happen. Let’s go back to Value Added Tax. Congress should pass it as law on big ticket items. Cars, large appliances, computers and furniture. Now try to peel yourselves off the ceiling for just a second.
Let’s say for a moment it is 1 percent and it goes to the feds. When you buy an item it is included in the price, like Britain.
You will get a slip of paper that shows the amount that was included. Now here’s the kicker. If it was assembled in America, you can submit it for a full, partial or even slightly higher refund. Why would this be good? First of all, it is a fact that people buying things stimulates the economy. Second, people will ask does this item qualify for a refund? This will increase the demand on American-made products and corporations to build it here.
We have to be reasonable. There are going to be things like the motors in the product made elsewhere. I am mostly concerned with final assembly. That way we don’t have to split hairs and get into making sure everything has to come from here, which would be unlikely and maybe impossible.
I say we start slow and include VAT on things that people buy and use daily. Another thing, how about if people that are retired show their Medicare card and the VAT is deducted from the cost so as to not tax or elderly.
We are going to have to pay this debt back and we need to start chipping away at it now, not tomorrow, now!
Our government needs money to operate. She has no way other than tax to get it. People that enjoy products that are monitored by our government for safety and quality should be taxed to cover that and other costs to run America.
We need a leader that has moxie and brains and can work well with others. We now have some great choices if you peel back all the bull and stop expecting these guys to be perfect, they are human. I stated before do we want someone with no experience, like we have now? Trial and error stinks to high heaven. Obama care is about to be thrown out by the Supreme Court this summer. What a great waste of time and money. We can’t afford four more years. That would put us up to 22 trillion in debt. I don’t think so .... America’s homeys don’t play that twice.
