Valley Wins 12th Straight TRC Game
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
AKRON - The Tippecanoe Valley Vikings continued their winnings ways in the Three Rivers Conference with a 28-7 win over visiting Oak Hill Friday night.
Valley clung to a 13-7 lead in the fourth quarter before two scores that came less than 40 seconds apart provided the Vikings with much needed breathing room.
The first fourth-quarter score came when quarterback Bryce Kelley found senior Aaron Reed from 12 yards out.
Sophomore speedster Chad Hoffer was Kelley's next target, reeling in a pass from 27 yards out to cap Valley's scoring for the evening.
Oak Hill welcomed back quarterback Matt Middlesworth, who missed several games to injury, last week in the Golden Eagles 37-3 win over Whitko.
Middlesworth was adequate but not nearly as effective against the Vikings.
The senior signal caller finished 9 of 19 for 100 yards and an interception that came at the hands of O.B. Thompson in the second half to swing the momentum toward Valley.
Middlesworth's counterpart, Kelley, continued his efficient play going 9 of 15 for 109 yards and two touchdown passes.
The run game for the Vikings continued to be solid as the running back corps combined for 205 yards on 39 carries.
Jerrod Parker had two touchdown rushes of 71 and 11 yards to lead the way for the Vikings. Parker entered Friday night's game against Oak Hill as the TRC's leading scorer with 45 points. Parker added 16 against the Golden Eagles with the two scores, two extra points and one two-point conversion run.
The Viking defense continued its inspired play against Oak Hill. The Golden Eagles rushed 32 times for -2 yards to finish with just 98 yards of total offense and just seven first downs.
In four conference games this year, Valley has give up just two touchdowns with its first team defense.
Both teams were efficient and relatively mistake-free. The Golden Eagles committed just one penalty for 10 yards while the Vikings racked up four penalties for 40 yards.
The two squads each lost a fumble while Valley fumbled twice.
The win is the 12th straight for the Vikings in the TRC and Valley looks to make it a baker's dozen Friday night against Rochester.
The Vikings travel to Rochester to take on the Zebras in what esentially will be the conference's championship game.
It also serves as a rivalry game as the two talented squad battle for the Bell Trophy. The Vikings currently own the trophy after seven straight years without it.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday in Rochester.
