FORT WAYNE -Ê"These girls have a goal in mind," said Tippecanoe Valley coach Gary Teel. "They want to finish the season playing in Indianapolis. We're on our way."

The Vikings moved one step closer to Indianapolis Saturday by winning the Fort Wayne Elmhurst Sectional championship game over Wayne 75-42. It was Valley's third sectional championship in a row.

"It never gets old," said Teel. "One of our goals was to win the sectional, and the girls have worked very hard to get here."

The Vikings took control of the game early and never looked back.

Rebekah Parker scored the first two baskets of the game, and Caty Patterson followed with a score of her own to go up 6-0 with 6:21 left in the first frame.

Two straight baskets by Wayne's Kelsey Helmuth cut Valley's lead to two, 6-4, but that was as close as the Generals were all game.

Patterson, Kara Kramer, Parker, Abby Shafer and Heather Rathbun orchestrated a 10-0 Viking run to put Valley up 16-4.

By the end of the first frame, the Vikings held a 23-10 lead.

Kramer netted the first two baskets of the second frame to increase Valley's lead to 17, 27-10.

The Generals staged a 6-0 run, but that barely made a dent in Valley's lead, and at the end of the second stanza, the Vikings took a 29-18 advantage into the lockerroom.

The Vikings came out hot in the third frame as Holli Jackson netted the first basket of the quarter to push Valley's lead to 31-18.

Jackson continued to perform for the Vikings through the third quarter. She netted four more baskets through the period and helped Valley take a 50-28 lead into the fourth frame.

Patterson, Shafer and Jenna McFadden opened the fourth quarter with a 6-0 Valley run before Wayne's Brittney Kennedy hit a layup to stop the run.

Then Viking senior Carli Anglin, who has been plagued by injury and illness much of the season, netted three straight baskets to up Valley's lead to 65-30.

"I'm glad I stuck with it," said Anglin.

"I am so happy for Carli," said Teel. "To be able to come in and score six points in the sectional after all she has been through is wonderful. It's a reward for all her hard work."

The Vikings continued to dominate through the remainder of the quarter to finish the game with the 75-42 win.

Parker led the Viking charge with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Kramer netted 14 points for Valley. Jackson finished the night with 11 points, six rebounds and two steals.

The 2o-2 Vikings now move on to the Peru Regional where they will face off against Jay County at 10 a.m. in the opening game of the regional.
