AKRON - Tippecanoe Valley faced an upset-minded Manchester Squire team Friday in a Three Rivers Conference matchup.

Despite Manchester's Dan Bourne scoring 33 points, Valley cruised to 75-46 victory. Manchester was down only 10 points, 36-26, at halftime.[[In-content Ad]]"I was disappointed in the way we played tonight, ecspecially in the third and fourth quarter."

"We were within 10 at the half and I thought if we could get better shots and we got back on defense we could hang with Valley," Manchester coach Gary Goshert said.

Valley started the second half with a three-point basket by Chad Hoffer to go up 39-26. The Squires scored four points to cut the lead to 39-30, Valley responded with an 11-0 run to put the game out of reach. The Valley spurt was led by Hoffer's nine points on three three-point baskets. Hoffer finished with 19 points on the night.

"We played pretty good basketball at times tonight. Other times we were careless with the basketball and made some bad decisions with the ball. We should have put the game away in the first half," Valley coach Bill Patrick said.

Bourne scored 22 of Manchester's 26 points in the first half. He finished with six three-point baskets.

"We had Kyle Ritchey guarding him tonight and we didn't help him much in the first half. We helped him in the second and denied him the ball. Bourne is a good player and when a player scores 30 points or more and the rest of the team doesn't, they can't beat you very often," Patrick said.

Valley went on an 11-0 run early in the first quarter that was highlighted by a Shane Salyer fastbreak dunk that brought the Valley crowd to it's feet. Salyer finished with 21 points to lead Valley in scoring. He also finished with one blocked shot and nine rebounds.

"Valley has so many weapons on their team and it is hard to contain them. We just couldn't help Dan out tonight and score when we needed to. I am just not happy with the way we played tonight," Goshert said.

Valley remained undefeated in TRC play (6-0) and ran its overall record to 11-3 on the year. The Viking defense continued to use pressure and keep the ball on the outside perimeter most of the game forcing Manchester to shoot a woeful 16-for-53 from the field.

Bourne finished 12-for-20 from the field, shooting 6-for-7 from beyond the three-point arc. Bourned finished 3-of-5 from beyond the three-point line and added four rebounds.

"Manchester has three big good kids on their squad. They have Bourne, David Cable and Aaron Medley. They have all started as sophomores. They gave us a good battle in the first half," Patrick said.

Other Manchester players scoring included Cable with four, Medly with two, Corey Thomas three and Spensor Penrod with four.

Manchester fell to 3-10 overall and 0-5 in TRC action with the 29-point loss.

Steve Tillman added 15 points to the Valley cause and finished with six rebounds. Ryan Scherzer came on strong in the second half and scored 10 of his 13 points on the night in the fourth quarter. Scherzer finished 3-for-4 shooting from the three-point arc.

Since starting the season 2-2 and playing those first four games without Hoffer, the Vikings have won nine of their last 10 games.

Valley is in action again Friday when West Central comes to town, followed by a game the following night at Culver Academy.

The Vikings' only remaining TRC game is scheduled for Feb. 7 against visiting North Miami.

Valley also has games against Bremen, Triton and Wawasee.

Manchester is in action again Friday at TRC foe Northfield and at Peru the following night.
