AKRON -ÊTippecanoe Valley coach Bill Patrick was pleased with his team's 65-46 win over Three Rivers Conference foe Manchester Friday night, but he was more pleased with the way his team played.

"This is probably the best game we have played overall this year," said Patrick. "We played well all 32 minutes tonight."

The Vikings jumped out early and never looked back. After passing the ball for more than a full minute before taking a shot, Tippecanoe Valley got the ball to big man Shane Drudge for the first basket of the game.

David Lash followed with two free throws, Stuart Jackson hit back-to-back baskets, and then Cory Vanlaningham aced a three-pointer to put the Vikings up 11-0 at the 4:20 mark.

Manchester's first basket came at the 3:52 point when Nick Poe netted a three-pointer to put the Squires on the board.

By the end of the first frame, Valley held a 16-7 lead.

The Squires cut the Viking lead to five after Ryan Camp and Tim Clark hit two buckets to open up the second frame.

But Vanlaningham put an abrupt stop to the Manchester run with an effortless three-pointer.

Camp responded with a basket, but Vanlaningham stayed hot and hit two more three-pointers to put Valley in control 25-13.

The Squires outscored the Vikings 6-5 in the final 2:50 of the second quarter, but Valley took a 30-19 lead into the halftime break.

Manchester senior Kyle Brunn hit a pair of free throws to open the third frame, but Valley's Jeff Parker answered with a basket to make the score 32-21 with 7:23 left in the third stanza.

A basket by Kasym Mork at the 5:27 mark put Manchester within eight, 36-28.

However, that basket sparked an 8-0 Tippecanoe Valley run that gave the Vikings a 44-28 lead with 1:34 left in the third frame.

Valley outscored Manchester 5-4 in the last minute of the third frame to take a 49-33 advantage into the final eight minutes of play.

Drudge and Parker combined to score the first four points of the fourth frame, but Manchester's Joe Egner answered with a basket and a free throw to make the score 53-36.

Valley went up by as much as 21, 57-36, with 5:23 to play, but Manchester fought back to cut the deficit to 19, 59-40 with 4:08 on the fourth-quarter clock.

The teams traded baskets for the remainder of the game, with Valley coming out on top 65-46.

"I give Valley a lot of credit, they hit the hoop and got on the offensive boards against us early," said Manchester coach Gary Goshert. "They played a good ball game at both ends of the floor."

Vanlaningham led all scorers with 19 points, while Lash had 13. Drudge netted 10 for the Vikings while Denny chipped in eight.

Egner led the Squires in the scoring column with nine points, while Mork and Camp added seven each.

"We played like we practiced this week," said Goshert. "Obviously it is not where we needed to be to play against a quality team like Valley."

The win moves Valley's record to 13-1 overall and 5-0 in TRC play. Manchester fals to 5-8 on the season and 2-3 in the TRC.

"I think the key for us was probably our defense," said Patrick. "Our kids played hard, and our ball movement was good."
