Each squad recorded three wins by fall, and benefitted from a forfeit. Manchester’s Clayton Moore defeated Wyatt Nelson 5-2 in the eighth contested match.
There were double forfeits in the 106, 113, 120 and heavyweight divisions.
While Viking head coach Scott Smith was happy with the win, neither coach was completely satisfied with their team.
“I’d liked to have won a little bit bigger than that, but we’ll take a one-point win,” said Smith. “I’ve got some guys that haven’t stepped up yet.
“We’ve got some guys that when they step on the mat, they’ve got to be ready to go right from the start. Some of them take a little time to get going, and by that time they’re already behing the 8-ball. They have to be mentally prepared when they step out there, and some of them aren’t there yet.”
Manchester head coach Jeremiah Maggart expressed similar observations on his team
“Clayton (Moore) came out and wrestled pretty well,” he said. “Their kid is pretty tough and a senior, too, so that’s a good win for him and get building for the rest of the year.
“From there, we’ve got some guys that need to get a little tougher mentally, and score more points to be successful.”
Next up for Manchester is the Caston Super Six tournament in Fulton on Saturday. Tippecanoe Valley will host North Judson at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
