AKRON - Despite the drifting snow and ice, Tippecanoe Valley hosted Rochester Saturday night In a key Three Rivers Conference girls basketball game.

Valley took sole possession of the TRC with a 50-37 handling of the Zebras.[[In-content Ad]]Valley won its eight game in a row and improved to 9-5 overall and 5-0 in the TRC.

Rochester fell to 9-6 overall and 2-3 in the TRC.

Valley is the only undefeated team in TRC action and leads Wabash (4-1), Northfield (3-2), Rochester (2-3), North Miami (2-3), Whitko (2-3), Manchester (1-3) and Southwood (0-4).

"Wow what a run, 5-0 in the TRC and 9-5 overall," said Valley coach Gary Teel. "The team did a great job tonight and I am so proud of them."

Valley started the game with a 5-0 run and never looked back. The Lady Vikings used tenacious defense, which allowed the Zebras to score just five points in the third quarter. After Valley's quick start, Rochester never got closer than four points in the game.

Valley held the Zebras to 13-of-45 shooting from the floor, though the Zebras were 4 of 8 from three-point range in the first half.

"We talked about that at halftime," said Teel. "We discussed how we need to go out and cover the outside shooters. They did a great job of adjusting that."

Hannah Boggs led the charge for Valley in the third quarter as she had two steals that led to layups and scored eight points in the quarter. Boggs finished with 14 points, leading all scorers. She also had three steals and five rebounds.

Valley shot 8 of 13 from the floor in the third to stretch the lead to 42-27 at the end of the quarter.

"Hannah did a good job scoring for us tonight," said Teel. "That is the good thing about this team. We don't have any one shooter you can contain. We may have three different players scoring in double figures on any given night."

Three Valley players scored in double figure in the game, led by Boggs. Melody Hoffer scored 12 points, while Kate Myers scored 10.

Ellexis Lindsey was held to seven points for Rochester. Lindsey finished the game 2 of 13 from the floor.

"Ellexis is an explosive player," said Teel. "We came into the night knowing we had to contain her. She is so quick off the dribble and if she doesn't score she makes a nice pass to the basket. The girls did a nice job on her tonight."

Valley also out rebounded the Zebras 36-23. Hoffer led four Valley players with at least five rebounds on the night. She pulled down a game-high 13 boards, while Whitney Sparkman pulled down seven boards.

Sparkman scored three points in the win but made her mark defensively, rebounding the ball and blocking three shots.

"The team is learning to read the defense and adjust to them as we need to," said Teel. "They are not just letting them play their way."

Valley started the season 1-5 before reeling of their eighth-straight victory.

"When you win it breeds confidence and that is what we are gaining," said Teel. "We have a couple of tough ballgames coming up. We are just a couple of steps from obtaining our goals this year."

The Lady Vikings face Northwood and Hall of Fame Coach Steve Neff Thursday and then play at Southwood Saturday.

"We have our work cut out for us," said Teel. "Northwood will be ready and they have grown to be a tough rivalry for us in the sectional."
