Val G. Duggins, 62, of Winter Haven, Fla., and formerly of South Whitley, died at 11:03 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008, in Winter Haven Hospital.

He was born June 6, 1946, in Fort Wayne, to Dale and Betty Duggins. On June 25, 1967, he married Emma L. Haney, who survives.

He graduated from South Whitley High School in 1964, and International Barber School. He was a barber in Churubusco before opening his own shop in South Whitley. Working in the wastewater treatment business, he worked for the town of South Whitley, then became self-employed before retiring from Turkey Creek Sewer District. He was a member of Kosciusko County Masonic Lodge and Mizpah Shrine. He was a volunteer fireman for South Whitley for 17 years and served as fire chief in 1977.

Also surviving are his mother, Betty Duggins, Bushnell, Fla.; a daughter, Stacey (and spouse Barry) Ousley, Winona Lake; a son, Drake (and spouse Cindy) Duggins, South Whitley; two brothers, Roger Duggins, Las Vegas, and Terry Duggins; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday followed by calling at the South Whitley Fire Station.
