United Way Day Of Caring Planning Underway

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

By Staff Report-

Planning is underway for the annual Day of Caring sponsored by United Way of Kosciusko County.
This year’s Day of Caring will be Aug. 13.
Although there were over 100 applications for help, the numbers are down this year for two major reasons, according to the United Way: lack of homeowner insurance and projects that were too extensive for the Day of Caring.
The 44 projects that qualified for Day of Caring will benefit from the hundreds of volunteers from area companies and the community. Supporting those volunteers will be local churches serving lunches and a number of local businesses who have provided supplies at discounted rates.
Applications submitted by Kosciusko County residents in need of assistance have been reviewed by United Way staff members and the Day of Caring Committee.
Homes were then inspected by volunteers consisting of community members, contractors, excavators, roofers, plumbers and electricians.
The members of the Day of Caring Committee have been instrumental in carrying out the tasks associated with this project, according to the United Way. Planning began after the 2013 Day of Caring, and staff and committee members have been working since February of this year.
Members of this year’s planning committee are: Tom Parker, Parker Roofing; Scott Coffin, RR Donnelley; Jeff Dobbins and Jody Melton, Zimmer; Dave Lucas, Barts Water Sports; Jason Avery, Chore Time Brock; Tom Wogoman, DePuy Synthes; Steve Foster, retired; and Valerie Crumbley, Grace College.
