United Way Campaign Exceeds Goal

The Kosciusko County United Way's 2004 campaign ended Thursday as board members revealed that $1,541,162 was raised to support the organization's partner agencies and programs. The celebration was held in Center Lake pavilion. The group again exceeded its goal, which was $1.525 million for 2004.

The event began with the United Way annual meeting. Clare Baumgardt, board president, said Mike Kissane was leaving the board and thanked him for his years of service. Board members re-elected to a second term were David Findlay, Karen Dady and Dean Zentz. New nominees elected to the board were Greg Quinton, Ron Donkers, Christy Price and Joe Kingan.

Baumgardt introduced David Findlay, the 2004 campaign chairman. He introduced the campaign cabinet members: Darlleen Shephard, Mark Minatel, Scott Smith and Denny Duncan.

The United Way ran 155 internal employee campaigns this year. Employees make up the majority of United Way contributions. Employee campaigns that increased their giving more than 50 percent were: Tranter Graphics, with a 58 percent increase; SYM Financial, with a 70 percent increase; Par-Kan, an 86 percent increase; and Staffmark, with 92 percent. In addition to these increases, 19 other companies also raised their contributions.

First-time donors were: Dutchmen Manufacturing, Machining Concepts, Nelson Beverage, Sacred Heart School, Superior Wood Products and Warsaw Christian School.

Special awards were given to companies with employee campaigns that achieved an increase of 20 percent of their growth opportunity potential. The Employee Achievement Award was given to the following companies: Bart's Water Sports, Biomet Inc., Dutchmen Manufacturing, Elder-Beerman Stores, Kosciusko Literacy Services, Kosciusko REMC, Lake City Bank, Lakeland Community Services, Marsh Supermarket, Mutual Federal Savings Bank, National City Bank, Nelson Beverage, Paragon Medical, Sacred Heart School, Salvation Army, Staffmark, Superior Wood Products, SYM Financial Advisors, Tranter Graphics, United Way of Kosciusko County Inc., Warsaw Christian School and Whitley Products.

Faye Jagger of SYM Financial Advisors was named leader of the year.
