By Staff Report-

The United Way of Kosciusko County recently announced that David Findlay has been appointed to serve as the campaign chairman of the 2004 United Way Campaign. In 2003, United Way raised over $1.4 million from individual and corporate contributors and provided funding for more than 40 programs in the areas of youth development, family and community wellness, self-sufficiency and emergency services.

Findlay also serves on the United Way board of directors and the Warsaw/Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce board of directors and recently led the Warsaw Community School Corporation's Core 40 community initiative. He serves as executive vice president of administration and chief financial officer of Lake City Bank.

Of his appointment, Findlay said, "The United Way of Kosciusko County serves a critical role in ensuring the important programs receive funding in our community that might not otherwise exist or serve as large a population. With the ongoing fiscal challenges at the state level, which have created funding shortfalls in programs throughout the county, it is more important than ever to raise funds locally to make these programs possible.

"Under the guidance of an active board of directors and community leaders, the United Way of Kosciusko County has adopted an updated approach to recognizing needs in the county through the Community Impact Committee. The intent of this approach is to ensure that the funding provided by the United Way creates sustained changes in our communities and funds necessary and appropriate programs."

Also serving on the 2004 Campaign Cabinet are Darlleen Shepherd, Zimmer Inc., who will lead the Industry Unit; Mark Minatel, Miller Minatel Consulting, heading up the Commerce Unit; Dennis Duncan, principal of Jefferson Elementary School, who will lead the Community Unit; and Scott Smith, Valentine Miner & Lemon, leading the Professional Division.

Pat Coy, executive director of the Kosciusko County United Way, said, "Our 2004 campaign team will ultimately be made up of over 50 people from throughout the community. This team will represent nearly every business and community interest in the county. It's very important to the leadership of the United Way that the residents of our county understand the great benefits that thousands of children and adults receive as a result the contributions from throughout the community."
