Kristin Quick was honored as a Sports Faith International Ave Maria Rising Star, and Erika Jansen was recognized for her volunteer service.
Quick received her award at a ceremony at Halas Hall, home of the Chicago Bears. More than 20 athletes and coaches accepted the High School All-Star award for their passion, faith, dedication, excellence in ability and leadership on their teams.
A varsity track and cross country runner, Quick was selected among 19 athletes that represent some of the "best and brightest" in prep school athletics, according to a press release from Warsaw Community Schools.
Beyond their accomplishments on the field, all award winners achieved outstanding grades with grade point averages higher than 3.0.
"Kristin Quick's outstanding and humble dedication to her team and the values they hold on and off the field is becoming more and more a rarity amongst coaches and athletes. Her nomination and success on the team are a tribute to her faith and commitment," said Patrick McCaskey, SFI founder.
The ceremony took place Feb. 27.
Jansen, 17, was honored for her exemplary volunteer service with a state-level Certificate of Excellence from The 2011 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program.
Presented annually by Prudential Financial, in partnership with National Association of Secondary School Principals, The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards honor young people across America for outstanding community service activities.
Jansen earned her award by volunteering with many area organizations in Kosciusko County. One of her biggest impacts at WCHS is in helping to start a "Student Closet" for WCHS. This closet provides needed clothing and personal items to students in need. The Student Closet is funded totally by area donations and grants.
The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program also recognizes the top middle level and high school volunteer in each state and the District of Columbia. It will name American's top 10 youth volunteers in May.
"The recipients of these awards vividly demonstrate that young people across America are making remarkable contributions to the health and vitality of their communities," said John R. Strangfeld, chairman and CEO of Prudential Financial. "In recognizing these students and placing a spotlight on their volunteer service activities, we hope to motivate others to consider how they can also contribute to their community."[[In-content Ad]]
