WINONA LAKE - Randy Swanson is seeking re-election to the Winona Lake Town Council Ward 5 seat.
Swanson said he has enjoyed serving the people of Winona Lake. Swanson was appointed to the council in 2009 to fill the unexpired term of Jeff Carroll.
While he has served on the council, he said, several key objectives have been accomplished.
Accomplishments include a long-term waste water treatment agreement being established between the town and Warsaw, reducing the wastewater treatment rates for town residents by nearly 20 percent, and the completion of the CR 250E road improvements project.
Swanson said there is now great openness of communication and accountability between the council and town employees.
He also said, over the past two years the council has approached the budgeting process for the town on a conservative basis in line with the reality of declining employment and tax revenues.
Some of the issues facing the town in the near future, Swanson said, are the Stonehenge Street and storm sewer project.
"The owners of the golf course continue to delay on negotiating important easements in order to begin the project. We look forward to beginning actual construction of that project this year," Swanson said.
Swanson said, in the last several years, the town has had a glimpse of the financial turmoil and budget crisis that will be faced by federal, state and municipal governments.
"I look forward to continuing the council's work to develop the greenway initiatives, partner with the Village At Winona and the many other events and programs that make the town of Winona Lake a unique place to live, work and raise a family," Swanson said.
Swanson has a bachelor's degree in economics from Manchester College, and has lived 30 years in the community, working in the financial services industry.
He is co-founder and owner of SYM Financial Corp., and is an agent with Silveus Insurance Group.[[In-content Ad]]
