The fair board approved the construction of a log cabin and a windmill. The cabin was originally built in the 1840s in northwestern Indiana. It was disassembled and moved to storage in Kosciusko County two years ago. The cabin was originally a residence, but will be reconstructed in Red Brush Village as a historic schoolhouse.
[[In-content Ad]]Back to the Days has obtained bids for reconstructing the cabin and is seeking funds to assist in the cost of reconstruction. Grant money from the Dane and Mary Louise Miller Foundation paid for the cabin to be deconstructed and moved. Another grant of $5,000 was given by the Kosciusko Community Foundation for the reconstruction.
Back to the Days President Dawn Stiles said about $25,000 is still needed to complete the reconstruction. Stiles said, if the cabin has not been reconstructed by May 7, her organization will lose the community foundation grant.
The windmill will be built by Eagle Scout candidate Preston Brandon. According to a press release from Back to the Days, Brandon plans to begin construction this spring and have the working windmill completed by fair week, July 6-11.
The two new structures will join Red Brush Village's current Sharpenburg log home, Red Brush Forge and the 4-H Blacksmith Shop. Back to the Days of Kosciuszko Inc. is working with the fair board and Echoes of the Past to continue developing the village.
