MENTONE – Two Mentone men were arrested Monday afternoon after allegedly breaking into and stealing from a business.

Jamison Alvin Ashby, 22, of 210 W. Main St., and Derek Jacob Flenner, 19, of 5 Ind. 25, both of Mentone, were arrested at 6 p.m. Monday and charged with burglary – breaking into a structure and theft, according to Mentone Police Department deputy Terry Engstrand.

“We received a tip from someone in the community of two suspicious subjects pushing a wheelbarrow,” Engstrand said.

Upon further investigation, the police located the two subjects with motor parts. The parts were identified as stolen from a local business at 103 S. Tucker St.

The two men, according to Engstrand, allegedly entered the local business and stole the items, which were valued at approximately $8,000.

“They were going to scrap the parts,” he said.

As to whether or not the two men may have any connection to other burglaries in the area, Engstrand said the investigation is continuing.

Ashby and Flenner were booked into the Kosciusko County Jail, and their bonds were set at $5,000 each.

Engstrand said, “The Mentone Police Department would like to thank the concerned citizen for taking the time to pick up the phone and calling them to report this suspicious behavior which led to this arrest. The Mentone Police Department would like to encourage citizens and the public to call your local police department if you suspect suspicious behavior related to theft or other crimes.”[[In-content Ad]]
