TV Board Hears About Energy, Senior Trip

MENTONE - Tippecanoe Valley School Board heard news about energy alternatives and a trip to Washington, D.C., at Monday's school board meeting.

In new business, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Daniel Kramer read for the board the resolution for approval of the 403B Wrap Plan. Board member Mark Wise made a motion to approve the resolution as read. Board member Rod Eaton seconded the motion.[[In-content Ad]]Being no further discussion, the motion carried unanimously.

Superintendent Brett Boggs reported the Merging of Services Oversight Committee members from Caston, Rochester and Tippecanoe Valley Schools had conducted interview of vendors to facilitate a Merging of Services Study. The committee chose Administrator Assistance to perform the study. The fee of $23,500 will be funded by a Merging Services Grant from Indiana Department of Education.

The board heard a presentation from representatives of Performance Services about using wind energy as an alternative source for the corporation.

No motions were made concerning the presentation. The board said it will take the information under advisement

Boggs told the board a bus has been reserved for the annual trip to Washington, D.C., for high school seniors. With additional funds needed to pay for an additional bus, students will be holding a fundraiser and also have applied for a local grant.

The 2009-10 school calendar was presented to the board. The approval of the calendar will be sought at the December meeting.

The board approved the hiring of Becca Dike as an instructional assistant at Akron and Matt Lobbert as a part-time custodian at Tippecanoe Valley Middle School.

School board policy changes to the indemnity and hold harmless agreement, student records, student transfers, staff student relations were approved.

The following personnel hirings were approved: Stephanie Anglin, media assistant, TVHS; Shelly Bailey, part-time custodian, TVMS; Adalberto Gutierrez, part-time custodian, TVMS; Gene Hughes, instructional assistant, Akron; Megan Koval, instructional assistant, Burket; April Reynolds, instructional assistant, TVMS;

The following extracurricular assignments were approved: Shelly Feldman, grade 7 boys assistant basketball coach, TVMS; and Jessica Stiffler, grade 6 cheer coach, TVMS.

The board also approved the Adult Basic Education contract for 2008-09.

The board accepted the resignation of Rod Hamman as boys tennis coach and Jennifer Phillips as volleyball coach at the high school. Boggs thanked Hamman for his 25 years as a tennis coach.

The board also met Susie Contreras, a junior at Tippecanoe Valley High School, who will serve as the student representative for the school board.

The board's next meeting is Dec. 8 at 7:30 at Mentone Elementary School.
