AKRON - Truman L. Nordman, 75, of 219 S. Pine St., Akron, went home to be with the Lord at 10:54 a.m. Aug. 6, 2008, in his residence, after a three-year illness.

He was born Oct. 17, 1932, in Disko, to Adolph and Iva Bolinger Nordman. On Jan. 16, 1955, at Olive Branch Church of God, he married Doris L. Hudson, who survives.

He moved to Akron from Roann 20 years ago and was a 1950 Gilead High School graduate. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and earned the awards: Korean Service Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star; United Nations Service Medal; National Defense Service Medal; and Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. He owned and operated Nordman Buildings Inc., Roann. He then worked at LAU Industries, Rochester, for 10 years, retiring in 1998. During his retirement, he worked part-time as a funeral assistant at the Earl-Love Funeral Home. He enjoyed fishing as a pastime. He was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.

Also surviving are three children: Phillip (and spouse Cheryl) Nordman, Wabash; Peggy (and spouse Dean) Owens, Mexico; and Craig (and spouse Bobbie) Amboy; four brothers: Wayne (and spouse Earlene) Nordman, Roann; Frank (and spouse Barbara) Nordman, Wabash; Paul (and spouse Virginia) Nordman, Lebanon; and Johnson (and spouse Carol) Nordman, Kokomo; a sister-in-law, Ruth Nordman, Silver Lake; seven grandchildren: Lyndi (and spouse Jay) Lancaster, Kimberly (and spouse Matt) Bentley, Jon Christopher Nordman, Kristoffer Owens, Elizabeth Holms, Steven (and spouse Nicole) Nordman and Dustin Nordman; and seven great-grandchildren: Anthony Hubartt, Bayley Lancaster, Braxton Holms, Madisyn Nordman, Preston Holms, Delaney Bentley and Jaxtin Holms. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lois Teeter and Novella Nordman; and a brother, Adolph "Junior" Nordman.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Earl-Love Funeral Home, Akron, with the Rev. Wayne Balmer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
