By Staff Report-
The event, held Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at TruHorizons in Milford, taught students how to properly clean and bandage a wound, how to react if someone is being engulfed in grain, water safety, dangers of electricity, lawnmower safety, disability awareness and more.
Area FFA students helped lead the students through the rotating sessions, while many area professionals helped conduct the hands-on activities.
“We had 15-minute sessions and tried to develop a curriculum so we can make our points very quickly,” said Jim Wolf, regional agronomy sales manager with TruHorizons. “Our thought is if we can save one child’s life or prevent an accident, we have accomplished our goal.”
TruHorizons places great importance on safety and hopes to help spread that message throughout the surrounding communities. TruHorizons is a joint venture of Trupointe Cooperative Inc. and Cargill Inc. that began operations in March, according to a provided press release. The agricultural company offers growers the products, services and resources needed from seed to harvest, such as soil sampling, nutrients, pest management, grain marketing, grain storage and more. A state-of-the-art agronomy facility is located in Milford, with grain elevators in Bremen and La Paz, the release states. A new 4.3-million bushel grain elevator is currently being built on the Milford site.
Safety First sponsors include: Kosciusko REMC, Purina, Trupointe Cooperative, Penguin Point Catering, Brock Grain Systems, Parkview Medical Systems, Nationwide Insurance, Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., Cargill, Plevna Equipment, Greenmark Equipment, Warsaw Tent & Party Rental, Tenney & Sons Septic Tank & Cleaning, Prairie Farms Dairy Cooperative, Main Channel Marina, Wawasee Boat Company, Griffith’s Wawasee Marina, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Dival Safety Equipment and the American Soybean Association.[[In-content Ad]]
