By Staff Report-

An unidentified man was struck and killed this morning on U.S. 30 when he walked in the path of a trash truck.

Patrick E. Lambert, 33, of Winona Lake, was driving the Waste Management trash truck at 1:07 a.m. when he hit the pedestrian. The man reportedly was walking in the westbound passing lane of U.S. 30 near the entrance to H&H Mobile Home Park with his back to traffic.

Officers said there is no street lighting in that area and heavy rain occurring at the time made visibility limited.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department said the victim was apparently carried on the front of the trash truck briefly before falling off the side of the truck onto the shoulder of the passing lane. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Kosciusko County Coroner Larry E. Ladd of massive head injuries.

Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the accident.

The victim was described as a white male approximately 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, 165-180 pounds, between the ages of 24 and 35, with short brown hair, a mustache and gray eyes. He had no scars or tattoos visible. Anyone with information on the identity of the man should call the sheriff's office at 267-5667 or 457-5757.

Also assisting at the scene were the Warsaw Police Department, Indiana State Police and Multi-Township EMS. [[In-content Ad]]
