Trojans, Squires Score Season-Opening Wins

BOURBON — Shooting 60 percent in its season opener Wednesday night at home, the Class 1A No. 6 Triton boys basketball team defeated Oregon-Davis 74-30.
The Triton Trojans hit 27 of the 45 shots they took, including 16 of 23 in the second half.
Senior Tanner Shepherd led the Trojans with 20 points, eight rebounds and four steals, while also dishing out three assists.
Also for Triton, junior Joey Corder also had four steals and 10 points to go with a game-high six assists, while senior Darren Harrell had eight points and four steals off the bench and sophomore Jordan Anderson went 3 for 3 from behind the three-point arc, scoring 11 points.
The 1-0 Trojans take a step up in competition Tuesday at home against Marshall County rival Plymouth.

Wednesday in North Manchester
Led by sophomore Chase Fierstos’ 26 points, the Manchester boys basketball team defeated Mississinewa 68-62 Wednesday night at home in double overtime. Played evenly throughout, the two teams were tied at the end of the third, fourth and first overtime, making the Squires’ victory an earned one. Helping Manchester get the win was its free-throw shooting, as the Squires made 22 of 29, but Mississinewa only converted 12 of 23. Along with Fierstos’ performance, Manchester also got 18 points from senior Claudel Dickentone and 12 from senior Clayton Petrie. The Squires host Oak Hill Saturday night.
