BOURBON -ÊAfter dropping four close matches Saturday in the Clinton Prairie Invitational, the Triton volleyball team was ready to get back on track.

The Trojans did just that Tuesday night, defeating Wawasee in four games 21-16, 18-21, 21-6, 21-12.

"We just put in a new lineup last night," said Triton coach Gayle Perry. "We put a new lineup in, the same girls but in new spots. I think they adapted very well and learned it quickly. We walked through it again tonight before the game. These girls are good students of the game, and they adjusted very well."

In the first game, Triton held a 4-3 advantage when senior Carly Feldman stepped to the serving line. Feldman served up five straight Trojan points to give Triton a lead it never relinquished.

Wawasee got as close as three points, making the score 14-11 after Cheryl Thomas served up four consecutive points.

After several possession changes, Triton got back on track as Kelly Feldman served the last two points to give the Trojans a 21-16 win.

Warrior junior Claire List gave Wawasee a jump-start in the second game, serving two game-opening points. From that point, Wawasee never lost the lead. The Warriors picked up a win in the second game 21-18 and the race was on.

However, Triton fought back in the third game. Trojan senior Samantha Keel stepped to the line for the first serve, and led the Triton squad to eight consecutive points, including two aces.

The Trojans managed to string together several series of points to win the game 21-6 and take a 2-1 lead in the match.

"I thought we played very well tonight," said Perry. "I thought we served very well. We mixed things up, placed the ball well and looked for holes. Overall, I was very pleased with our level of play."

In the fourth game of the match, Wawasee took an early 2-1 advantage, but the Warriors were unable to hold that lead. Amber Mellott stepped to the line and led the Trojans to four points, including two aces, to give Triton slim advantage at 5-3.

With an 8-7 Triton lead, Trojan senior Kelly Feldman served seven straight points to put the game securely Triton's favor.

Wawasee got as close as 20-12 before Keel served the last point to end the game and give Triton the win.

"We played hard," said Wawasee coach Amy Miller. "The last few weeks we have struggled with playing games until the end, and we played hard until the end of this game. I don't look at this game as a loss because we played until the end. It's a baby step."

The win makes Triton's record 21-10, while Wawasee falls to 16-14 overall.
