AKRON - Tuesday afternoon's girls tennis matchup between Triton and Tippecanoe Valley was filled with unique matchups.

With the exception of Triton singles player Alisha Anthony and doubles player Megan Weissert, everyone was playing a different position in Valley's home finale, with the Trojans having little trouble grabbing a 4-1 win.

Anthony, Triton's No. 1 singles player, cruised past Valley's Andrea Kindig 6-0, 6-2.

Junior Danielle Anthony played next to her younger sister, Alisha, in the No. 2 singles slot.

Triton head coach Laura Lamaster was impressed with the elder Anthony's play.

"Danielle is playing really well for us," said Lamaster. "I've been pleased with her improvement and she's shown me a lot playing singles."

Both sisters won their matches by the score of 6-0, 6-2.

The switch in lineups not only allowed the players to play where they want to, it also gave coaches a chance to plan for next year.

Triton has just two seniors on its team, Justina Ravenscroft and Megan Weissert.

Weissert, playing her first year of varsity tennis, played in her usual No. 2 doubles spot with freshman Katie Wilcox and fell to Valley's Adel Zmelikova and Allison Rock.

Zmelikova is the Vikings' regular No. 1 singles player.

As much as Weissert and Wilcox tried to avoid Zmelikova, the Valley senior did just enough to carry the Vikings to a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4) victory.

In No. 3 singles action, Triton's Chelsea Wampler was impressive in a 6-3, 7-5 over Valley's Lindsay Stavedahl.

"Chelsea Wampler is a good, solid player," said Lamaster. "She has a lot of ability and she's really close to being very good."

Brittany Cook and Ravenscroft had little trouble in dispatching the Vikings' Maribeth Martin and Brooke Prater in No. 1 doubles action. The Trojans won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.

Tuesday marked what is technically termed as senior night for Valley. Zmelikova, a foreign exchange student from the Czech Republic, is the lone senior on the Vikings' roster, creating an unconvential senior night

"She's a blessing," said Valley head coach Matt Craig. "She has helped us out a lot."

Zmelikova stepped into the No. 1 singles spot despite never playing tennis competitively.

While Zmelikova has provided a steady hand on the court, it's been the play of Craig's junior class that has carried his team off the court.

Five of the seven players on Valley's roster are juniors.

According to Craig, Viking junior Prater exemplifies what leadership is.

"She played No. 1 singles for us last year when she wasn't ready," said Craig. "She took the hit for the rest of the team."

While Triton was able to cruise, the match means little as both teams quickly turn their interest to sectional play.

The Trojans, who finish the season with a record of 7-5 overall and 3-3 in the Northern State Conference, take on NSC foe John Glenn

Triton defeated Glenn earlier in the season by the count of 3-2.

Valley finishes the season 4-8 overall and 2-3 in the Three Rivers Conference. The Vikings will face Churubusco in the opening round of sectional play at Wawasee High School. Play is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
