BOURBON -ÊFolks around the Triton High School area have a lot to be proud of this season. Seven sectional championships. Four Northern State Conference Championships. Several trips to the state championships.

"We've definitely had a good year," said Triton athletic director Mike Byron. "In fact, in most schools eyes, this would be a pretty successful year. Seven sectional championships and four conference championships, that's a great year."

The Trojans started the year off with a strong run through the fall sports season.

The boys cross country team won the sectional, placed third in the regional and sent one runner, Nate Gephart, to the state finals.

Then the volleyball team captured a sectional title as well as the NSC title.

The success continued into the winter sports season.

The girls basketball team won the sectional, regional, semistate and state championships for the second year in a row. The Trojans also earned the Northern State Conference title.

The the boys basketball team captured both the sectional and NSC titles, and the wrestling team team had four individual sectional champions.

And the good vibes didn't stop this spring.

The boys track team won the sectional and then got four individual athletes through the regional to the state finals. Then Matt Anders becamse Triton's first medalist in school history by placing fifth in 400 meter dash at the state finals.

The girls track team advanced several athletes to the regional, and Rachel Speicher took a trip to Indianapolis for the state finals in the high jump.

The girls tennis team won the sectional and competed in the regional as well.

And now the baseball team is looking to end the year on a high note with a win at the state finals. The Trojans came from behind in the sectional to earn a trip to the regional. The Triton squad picked up two wins in the regional to move on to today's state finals.

But Triton's dynasty may not last long. The Trojans move up from Class A to Class 2A next year, meaning bigger schools and more competition.

"Of the schools we play in conference, five of those schools are in our sectional as well," said Byron. "So we will look to do well in conference and then hopefully do the same in the sectional. It should be competitive."

And like other high schools, Triton faces rebuilding after talented seniors graduate.

"We are losing a lot of good quality seniors," said Byron. "Eight players from girls basketball, six from baseball.

"But we also have some young teams. The tennis team is young, they were all underclassmen this season. An cross country should be very strong. Coach Kreft is looking to go to state with everybody back after placing ninth in the semistate. They should have a very strong year."
