BOURBON -ÊA contract is binding Triton Teachers Association and Triton school board.

Triton Teachers Association ratified and signed a two-year collective bargaining contract March13; Triton school board members unanimously approved the contract Tuesday.

Under the contract, teachers pocket a 2 percent salary increase this year and next along with an increase in insurance deductible.

Negotiations forced a wording clarification of a few instances in the contract.

The contract negotiations started in August but last through the 2002-03 school year.

Steve Feldman was the school board representative. Susan Dietzel represented the association in the mediation.

"We are really pleased that the process has been finished," Dietzel said.

In other business, the board:

• Decided to host summer school in spite of the state's financial constraints.

Schools send in proposed summer school costs to the state by April 1. On Sept. 15, the actual costs are submitted. Between all the schools, the state divvies up the appropriated money.

Losing funding because of state cuts is a concern, but "I really don't see it happening," said Ted Chittum, superintendent.

• Heard about the upcoming distance learning lab that will be available to all high schools in Marshall County.

The "state-of-the-art facility" brings distant classrooms, college classrooms, for example, into the high school, said Chittum.

He said the learning lab's technologies include an electronic chalkboard that allows students to write on the board from their desks.

• Approved: Daisy Ousley as volunteer girls' softball coach; Melissa Claxon as volunteer for the girls' softball coach; Lisa Mellot as volunteer tennis coach; Justina Faulkner as girls' varsity basketball assistant coach; Quentin S. Blackford as boys' varsity basketball assistant coach; and Brad A. Clauss as junior varsity baseball coach.

Triton school board members are: president Kevin Boyer, vice president Steve Feldman, secretary/treasurer Larry Lemler, Dave Shively and Steve Blackford. Corporation treasurer is Janet Barker. Superintendent is Ted Chittum. [[In-content Ad]]
