BOURBON – Triton School Board approved the 2011-12 school calendar Monday during the board meeting.
The new calendar aligns with Jesse school. The other calendar option had spring break scheduled for a later week, but the board felt that they needed to continue to honor the cohesiveness with Jesse school as they have in the passed.
The board approved the calendar unanimously. First student day is Aug. 16.
Featured during the meting was an in-depth presentation from Christine Cook, data and assessment coordinator and instructional coach.
Cook detailed the corporation’s continued strategy to collect student test data, as well as individual learning assessments to provide the absolute best teaching plan for students. Triton has been working to provide the teachers the tools to teach each student successfully. Cook uses a “Plan-Do-Study-Act” model, which has been successful for both students and teachers.
Old business regarding the leaking faucets and the possible transition to sensor faucets ended in the repair of nine leaking faucets.
The maintenance department did a detailed research and cost assessment of replacing all building faucets – this would not be cost effective as the cost would be approximately $100,000.
The maintenance department has added the faucets to their monthly list of maintaining. Leaking shower fixtures were also repaired.
The board approved several personnel changes. Approved recommendations for the 2010-11 seasons were to hire Brent Cooper as the eighth-grade girls basketball coach; Dave Carpenter, junior high golf coach; Jim Shively, varsity baseball coach; Layne Leeper, junior varsity baseball coach; and Rodney Younis as a volunteer baseball coach.
The board also accepted the retirement of Martha Lemler. Lemler was the full-time cafeteria worker.
Principal Jeremy Riffle stated that kindergarten round-up brought several new students to the corporation.
Triton will host an early kindergarten registration June 2. This will allow time to assess the staffing decisions.
There will be a textbook adoption meeting Monday and April 24 for parents interested in being involved in the decision making for the new text books for the elementary and junior high schools.
Bob Ross, assistant high school principal, added that the landscaping project is tentatively set for June 4, and more details are to follow.
The board also approved the reappointment of Ken Miller to the Bourbon Public Library Board for another four-year term, which will begin May 2011 and end April 30, 2015.
There will be an Indiana School Board Association Spring Regional Meeting May 18 at 6 p.m. at Christo’s.[[In-content Ad]]
