The few cameras currently in the high school hallways and parking lots are outdated, and there are no cameras in the elementary school, the board heard. Since the cameras will have an online video feed, local police will have 24-hour surveillance of the interior and exterior of the school.
The security system, along with server upgrades and new laptops, were suggested by technology director Ted Fisher as part of a bond project initiated last summer. The board also voted to upgrade the servers and purchase the laptops, giving Triton one-to-one computers for grades 5-12.
Other areas of growth and development have occurred since the initiation of the bond project last summer. Christine Cooke presented an assessment to the board of the school’s progress towards their goal of 90-plus percent reading rate by 2020.
Her assessment of testing data showed that most students are “on-grade-level” and also identified how many students needed extra help in reaching grade level. Two students, Mary Yeo and Karianne Dunifin, aided Cooke in presenting data, as well as identifying goals for the upcoming years.
Additional business included hiring new coaches for extra-curricular activities.
Jake Burnett was hired to coach Junior Varsity baseball. Shelly Feldman and Ryan Meister were hired to share the Varsity coaching position for girls track. Thomas Cody was hired to be an assistant for boys and girls track, and Joe White was hired as the Junior Varsity boys track coach.
The board also voted to approve the retirement of Rosalee Overmyer, Larry Layman, Jo Anna Stackhouse, Hugh Rettinger, Sam Davis and Larry Watenbarger, effective at the end of the 2012-2013 school year. They also approved the resignation of guidance counselor Christy Cordell, effective March 15.[[In-content Ad]]
