Several board members voiced their concerns that all-day kindergarten would rob the children of their childhoods, and questioned the readiness of a 6-year-old for a full-day curriculum.

A survey taken of parents showed that 77 percent of the parents are for the all-day class, while 23 percent were against it.

President Kris Glingle, Jerilyn Anders and Rodney Kreft voted against the motion.

Christine Cook presented the board with the students' DIBELS scores showing that in the three-year study group, there was a steady gain in the students' achievements in reading. Superintendent Ted Chittum congratulated the teachers and staff for their hard work and efforts to bring Triton children above the state requirements.

Triton Schools will offer a breakfast program for the junior and senior high students, beginning this fall. The cost for daily breakfast will be $1.

The board read the retirement resolutions for long-time staff members Thomas C. Bowers and Michael W. Byron. Glingle gave his well-wishes to them in their retirement, and expressed his admiration for their years of service.

The board accepted the recommendations of the following personnel changes: Resignation of Linda Bowdler as summer interventionist, Phyliss Watkins and Lorri Gabhart as summer intervention teachers, Steve McBride as senior high school softball coach, Allen Whittaker as National Honor Society sponsor, Janet Jackson as math/science instructor, Cynthia Stichter as temporary math instructor, and Teresa Watkins as sixth-grade teacher. Watkins currently is the school corporation secretary, and has an extensive teaching background.

Superintendent Chittum said, "While Teresa will be missed in her current capacity, she will be a valuable asset to our teaching staff."

The board approved the textbook rentals for the 2007-2008 academic year. Fees have a slight increase at some grade levels and slight decreases at others.

Conditions of employment for the elementary social worker position were approved. Principal Rebecca Dennis is actively pursuing a candidate for the position.

Ticket prices were approved for athletic events.

The board approved the renewal of Kenneth Miller's appointment to the Public Library Board. Miller's appointment will continue through 2011.

The board accepted job description and conditions of employment for a bus mechanic.

The board approved a resolution to temporarily borrow from the Indiana Bond Bank. Temporary borrowing is a result of the delay in property tax disbursement throughout the state.

Curt Pletcher from Umbaugh and Associates, Plymouth, gave the board a detailed report on existing debt, debt financial options and legislative changes.
