Triton Junior Miss Program Honoring its 40th Year

BOURBON – The Triton Junior Miss Program is honoring its 49th year with the theme “Game-On!” Saturday at 7 p.m. in Triton High School’s Auditorium. with Kevin Boyer as host. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Seven contestants will compete for the title of the 2013 Triton Junior Miss/Distinguished Young Women.
The Junior Miss Program is full of scholarship opportunities for high school senior girls. Since its beginning, Junior Miss has awarded young women scholarships for their academic and on-stage performances.
Each contestant is judged in five categories: scholastic achievement, talent, interview, a fitness routine and self-expression on stage.
Before the show a panel of academic judges tally scores based on each contestant’s GPA, SAT scores and level of class difficulty. Another panel of judges scores the other four categories.
The day of the show contestants spend 10 minutes with the judges for a personal interview.
The audience is able to enjoy the 90-second talents from each of the contestants, a fitness routine and a self-expression portion which highlights the contestants’ grace under pressure. Each contestant is required to answer a question on stage while in their formal gowns.
Triton Junior Miss is awarding more than $3,200 in scholarships to the seven young women from Triton High School.
The awards given consist of preliminary awards, Spirit of Junior Miss award, first and second runners-up and the 2013 Triton Junior Miss winner.
Preliminary awards include the winners in the individual categories of scholastic achievement, fitness, self-expression and talent.
The Spirit of Junior Miss award is an award voted on by all of the contestants and given to the girl who best exemplifies the principles of the Junior Miss Program.
The 2013 Triton Junior Miss winner will be crowned Saturday evening along with all runners-up.
The winner of Triton Junior Miss 2013 will join other senior girls from across the state to compete for Indiana’s Junior Miss in Kokomo Feb. 28 and March 1 and 2.
The Junior Miss journey will continue for the winner of the state competition as she will go on to the national competition. The 56th- annual America’s Junior Miss National Finals will be in Mobile Ala., in June.
National sponsors of the America’s Junior Miss include the City of Mobile and Mobile County. National category sponsors are Alabama Power, Encore Rehabilitation, Mobile Gas, Regions Bank and Wintzell’s Oyster House.
Tickets for the show are being pre-sold by the contestants and will be available at the door prior to the show with a cost of $6 per person. Children 5 and under are free.
The contestants vying for the title of the 2013 Triton Junior Miss include the following:
Contestant 1 – Tyra Wynter Kehaulani Fakes is the daughter of Edward and Jennifer Ashcraft and Kevin Fakes.
She plans to attend Purdue University and Harrison College to become a veterinarian technician.
For her talent she will do  a hula dance to the Hawaiian version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
Her activities include football manager, 4-H, art club, Spanish club, spirit club, science club and went on the biology trip to Florida.
She enjoys caring for animals on a farm, country music, four-wheeling, watching volleyball and the Olympics this summer.
Contestant 2 – Trishton Sue Tillotson is the daughter of Tim and Tonia Tillotson.
Her future plans are to study to be a youth pastor/counselor at Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne.
For her talent she will be doing a comedy skit “The Janitor-Footloose.”
Her activities include FFA, FBLA, FCS, choir, 4-H, science club and active in her church youth group.
She was Mrs. Hatch in “It’s a Wonderful Life” and was in the chorus for “The Music Man.” She also enjoys long walks, listening to music, going to church and Pine Creek Horse Camp.
Contestant 3 – Breanna Sue Lemler is the daughter of Tim and Melinda Lemler.
She plans to attend Purdue or Kentucky Wesleyan University to become a pharmaceutical representative.
Her talent is a basketball dribbling demonstration.
Her activities include vice president of the National Honor Society, varsity basketball, track and volleyball, church youth group, FFA and class president. She also enjoys showing livestock in 4-H, helping on the family farm and attending country music concerts with her family, as well as watching her classmate’s sporting events.
Contestant 4 – Marissa Kelley Ross is the daughter of Bob and Kelley Ross.
Her future plans are to attend Valparaiso University to study marketing and graphic design.
For her talent she will be doing a jazz dance to the song “All That Jazz”.
Marissa’s activities are Triton Leadership Academy, spirit club, art club, key club and yearbook where she’s been the editor for two years. She also is president of the spirit club, has volunteered at Plymouth Park Rec Center and enjoys swimming, hanging out with friends and shopping.
Contestant 5 – Brittney Nicole Frenger is the daughter of Jeanette Racolta and Adam and Mary Frenger.
She plans to attend Indiana University to become a veterinarian.
For her talent she will be singing “Summer Girl” from the movie “Country Strong.”
Her activities include FFA, spirit club, science club, Spanish club and National Honor Society.
Brittney was outstanding algebra and biology student and won several cheerleading awards among them was most improved and most spirited. She enjoys camping, singing, fishing and four-wheeling.
Contestant 6 – Paige Rylee Ullery is the daughter of Hank and Shelia Ullery.
Her career ambitions is to be a pediatric occupational therapist and she plans to attend IUSB.
Her talent will be “The Evolution of Dance” made popular by Judson Laipply on YouTube.
Paige’s activities include cheerleading, track manager and Spanish club. She won cheerleading awards for mental attitude, most spirited and All-American Cheerleader and was the Hoosier Girls State delegate. She enjoys reading, writing, drawing, walks and mudding.
Constant 7 – Brianna Kelsey Trowbridge is the daughter of Kristine Taylor and Scott Trowbridge.
She is going to attend IPFW and plans to someday open her own bakery.
Her talent will be singing the song “Don’t Rain on My Parade” from Funny Girl.
Her activities include National Honor Society, art club, science club, Spanish club and was an outstanding biology and geometry student.
She was Zennita in the “Music Man” and was in the chorus of  “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” and “Tom Sawyer.” She enjoys writing, reading, singing, yoga and bike riding.
