ARGOS -ÊAt Thursday night's Argos Sectional, Triton's JV players wore homemade T-shirts that said "Big Blue Slam."

Unfortunately for the Culver Cavaliers, they were on the receiving end of Triton's "Big Blue Slam."

The No. 5 (A) Triton volleyball team defeated Culver 15-2, 15-1 to advance to the semifinal round of the Argos Class A Sectional at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Beth Workman started the first game with an ace. After Workman gave Triton a 2-0 lead, Ashley Scroggs stepped up to serve a point for Culver.

Then Rachel Speicher, Janell Salisbury, Brandie Ganshorn and Ashley Boardman combined to help Triton build an 8-1 lead before Brandi Elliott scored Culver's last point of the first game.

With the Trojans up 10-2, Workman stepped to the line again and served up another ace along with three other points to give Triton a 14-2 advantage.

Rachel Speicher served up the last point of the game on Triton's next possession to put the Trojans up 1-0 in the match.

"We played well tonight," said Triton coach Gayle Perry. "I think we were still excited from the win over Plymouth, and we just handled Culver tonight. The girls are playing very strong volleyball right now."

The second game was basically all Triton.

After several possession changes, Triton's Tommi Kreiter stepped to the line and served the first four points of the game. After several more possession changes, Ganshorn stepped in to serve five more points and give Triton a 9-0 lead.

Four possessions later, Boardman moved in and served up five more points to give Triton a commanding 14-0 lead.

"We are having fun right now," said Perry. "We are enjoying playing right now. We're not burnt out, we're not tired of playing, we're not anxious about playing. We play like that in games and in practice. We're just having fun and enjoying every moment."

Culver's point came when Elliott served one point late in the second game to prevent a Triton shutout.

However, Culver's hopes of a comeback were short-lived as Melissa Claxon served up the game point for Triton, giving the Trojans a 15-1 win.

"We had six subs playing in the second game, and they didn't miss a lot," said Perry. "That says a lot for our team right now.

Brandie Ganshorn led the Trojans with nine kills and seven digs, while Beth Workman added 13 assists and two aces. Amber Feldman had three kills and Melissa Claxon added five assists.

The Trojans move on to play Argos (8-23), which advanced by beating 0-18 LaCrosse. Oregon-Davis (7-22) faces South Central (20-10) in Saturday's other semifinal match. The championship is at 7 p.m.

"We feel like we control our own destiny at this point," said Perry. "If we get beat at this point, it's because we beat ourselves."
