BOURBON - Triton School Corp. opened a new position effective Monday. Board members approved hiring Dan Weaver Monday as the new technology coordinator for Triton schools.

"We had 16 applicants for the job," superintendent Rex Roth said.

A committee, comprising Roth, Triton Elementary School principal Tom Bowers, Triton Junior-Senior High School principal Ted Chittum, Hugh Rettinger and Charlie Ray, interviewed three applicants for the new position.

Roth said Weaver was the unanimous choice for the job.

"Dan has worked in our corporation and is familiar with our technology set-up," he said. "He has vast experience in hardware and software applications. He should prove to be a valuable asset to our technology situation."

Weaver said he is "really looking forward" to beginning his new job.

In other business:

• Roth reported to school board members on the progress of the new bus garage.

"I really don't think they're going to meet their completion date," Roth said.

• Board members approved board goals for 2000-01. Roth said they were developed during a retreat. Goals include: supporting and promoting the building Performance Based Accreditation target areas, ensuring implementation of the school safety plan and striving to provide quality physical facilities to enhance the learning environment.

"I think we're working toward those," Roth said.

"I think we're ahead of where we (were last year)," board president Dave Shively said.

• Bowers said a music program, presented by students in grades two through four, will be Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.

Bowers also said the fifth-grade boys basketball teams, A and B, took home both trophies at the North Liberty tourney.

"It was the finest elementary game I've seen in a long time," Bowers said.

• Chittum said the high school held its music program Sunday.

• Board members approved a $50,000 treasurer's bond.

• Board members approved hiring Karen Meister, Becky Gottschalk and Mary Carlson as bus drivers. Board members also accepted Jill Montalbano's resignation as a bus driver.
