BOURBON - Triton School Corp. will be heading into a feasibility study starting this fall.

The Triton school board voted unanimously Monday to contract the study with Indiana State University Department of Educational Leadership, Administration and Foundations professor Dr. Robert L. Boyd.

The study will cost $9,500, Triton superintendent Ted Chittum said.

Chittum expected the project's completion by spring.

Boyd will study the corporation's community and student demographics, school facilities, educational programs and ability to finance capital improvements, the contract says.

Boyd will analyze population trends, including projected student populations. He will report on the present conditions of the school facilities compared to building and educational standards. He also will look at the corporation's financial indebtedness, according to the contract.

Boyd studied Manchester Community Schools, another area school corporation, during the last school year. The MCS school board followed Boyd's recommendation for a reconfiguration of the two elementary schools.

The school board will appoint a 25- to 30-person committee to work with Boyd, Chittum said. The committee will include patrons, community members, teachers and staff members, according to information accompanying the contract.

Committee meetings will be open to the public because the committee is school board-appointed.

In other business, the school board:

• Announced the corporation's student population increased by 2.5 students. Each kindergarten student is counted as a half student, Chittum said.

• Approved the weight adjustment for Advanced Placement classes, particularly AP English language and composition.

The students in AP classes, which are more rigorous college-level classes, will earn an extra point on the grade point scale.

Triton Junior-Senior High School will add to its AP classes next with an AP biology class.

Other area schools, like Warsaw Community Schools, hold similar polices.

Triton school board members are: president Kevin Boyer, vice president Steve Feldman, secretary/treasurer Larry Lemler, Dave Shively and Steve Blackford. Corporation treasurer is Janet Barker. Superintendent is Ted Chittum. [[In-content Ad]]
