BOURBON - The Triton School Board approved school calendar changes that included removing Oct. 23 as a day off, and adding Jan. 4 as a no-school day.

This will eliminate fall break all together and increase winter break by one day.

Students Adam Creighbaum and Jen Stryker thanked the board for allowing them to participate in the global competition of Destination Imagination. The Triton team took seventh place out of 50.[[In-content Ad]]The board approved several administrative contracts as well as personnel changes, including: Michael Chobanov as the junior-senior high school principal; Robert Ross as the junior-senior high assistant principal; Jeremy Riffle as elementary principal; and Carl Hilling as superintendent.

Personnel changes included the approval of extending Josh Van Houten's contract as social worker/administrative assistant by 10 days; extending Mason McIntyre's contract as the athletic director by 10 days; the approval of the job title change for Janet Barker from treasurer to director of business and finance; the re-appointment of Larry Manhart as the library representative; and the resignation of Gayle Perry as the sixth-grade girls basketball coach.

Student Katie Snyder honored bus driver Terry Scott with a plaque for his day-to-day good example that he sets for the students, especially the day of the bus accident. Snyder said, "It's the rockingest bus out there."

The board approved the textbook adoption for the 10th-grade social studies as well as the handbooks for each building.

A group of entrepreneurial moms in the community approached the board with their first annual children's resale presentation. They requested and were granted use of the gymnasium for their community clothing sale to be held Aug. 1.

The committee asked that the school corporation waive the fee for the gymnasium, which covers electricity and janitorial services in lieu of a 5 percent of the proceeds donation to a club or organization in need of funds at Triton. Another 5 percent of the proceeds will go back to help fund the administrative costs, and the remaining 90 percent of profits revert back to the seller. Committee members are Ashley Doll, Corrie Doll, Danielle Earl, Erin Feldman, board member Amy Middaugh and Alissa Pugh.

The moms expect to have up to 75 sellers, and hope that this is the first of many sales that will allow parents to sell their items with little effort and to make some extra money. Clothes that aren't sold will be returned to the seller, or donated to The CHAFIA Swap Shop or the Battered Women's Shelter (Heminger House).
