Trio Of Local Games Postponed
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
Three local football games were postponed on Friday because of lightning.
Tippecanoe Valley at Northfield, North Miami at Manchester and John Glenn at Triton were each postponed. The games will pick up where they were left off last night.
Valley Leads Northfield
At Wabash, the Tippecanoe Valley Vikings, on the road at Northfield hunting for win No. 2 of the season, will have to wait another night for a chance at the victory.
Lightning and torrential rains spoiled the night north of Wabash, and the game will be played tonight with kickoff scheduled for 7.
A batch of thunderstorms rolled through the area just prior to Friday's kickoff, and the game was postponed to 8 and then 8:30 pm. The contest did get underway for eight minutes, but lightening and rain returned around 9. The game was called following that delay.
The Vikings looked impressive in the eight minutes that were played, rolling up 79 yards of offense while holding Northfield to -5 total yards. Senior Viking Jason Parker scored with 4:24 to play in the first quarter on an 11-yard jaunt to put Valley on the board, but the PAT kick attempt was blocked and the score remained 6-0.
Northfield received the kickoff and ran two plays before the postponement, and the game will be played from that point tonight. The Norse are facing third down and 12 from their own 18-yard line.
North Miami At Manchester
Bad news for the Manchester Squires. The postponement hurt them more than anyone else. They play their home games at Manchester College, but the Spartans have a home game against Mount St. Joseph today at 1:30.
The Squires lose their home-field advantage. Their game will be played at North Miami at 6 tonight.
The game was called when the stadium lights went out with 5:30 left in the second quarter. The game was tied 0-0.
Both teams were running hurry-up offenses, typically snapping the ball within 10 seconds.
Manchester attacked North Miami with a barrage of fresh backs by having six different players rush the ball. The Squires had 76 rushing yards on 21 carries.
North Miami rushed for 70 yards on 18 carries.
Neither team bothered with the pass in the bad weather. North Miami quarterback Matt Graham was 0 for 2 passing, while Manchester's Rex Reimer was 1 for 1 for 13 yards.
Manchester had a first down at North Miami's 19-yard line when the lights went out.
North Miami is 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Three Rivers Conference. The Squires are 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the TRC.
John Glenn at Triton
Triton's game with Glenn will be played at Triton at 7:30 tonight. Triton is 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the Northern State Conference. Glenn is 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the NSC.
