The event will get under way June 26 at 8 a.m. in Winona Lake. The triathlon will consist of first swimming a quarter-mile in Winona Lake, riding a bike 13.5 miles around Pierceton and back to Winona Lake, and then running three miles around the town of Winona Lake.

According to Phil Eherenman, 330 athletes participated in the event last year and he expects just as many or more this year.

Contestants will be grouped in divisions five years apart. Example: the youngest division will range from 15-20 years old. The next would be 21-25, and so on. The event, which is sanctioned by the U.S Association of Triathalons, is open to male and female contestants.

According to Eherenman, the event is one of four events on the Hoosier Series. And it is also a Mid East Region Club race. The event will feature two classes, open and masters. Males in the 185-pound range are known as Clydesdales. Females weighing 145 pounds are referred to as Athenas.

Registration will take place at the Winona Lake Park June 25 from 6-8 p.m. and June 26 at 6 a.m. Registration forms can be picked up at the YMCA, Reneker's Sports Shop and Tarkio Road. A registration fee of $30 will be charged to those who have a USAT license, and $35 for those who don't have a USAT license.
