Two publications were reviewed by the Kosciusko County Solid Waste Management District Tuesday.

The first is a household recycling sheet detailing what the district collects as materials and how to package those items for recycling.

The second publication was the first issue of Trash Talk, a quarterly "newspaper" for the district, which will be distributed to county elementary schools.

Trash Talk has localized articles on the front and back of each four-page issue, and puzzles and quizzes in the center. It is partly funded by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.

Financial controller Sue Ann Mitchell presented the district's 1782 Notice, a formal financial statement by the Department of Local Government Finance. The notice indicates the district's tax levy is set at .0035 cents, which will provide $157,783 in funds for the district this year.

The board also:

• Heard a truck "topper" has been added to the district's pickup and that the floor scale has arrived.

Studebaker said a ramp with a slight incline is needed to place heavy boxes on the scale. The board approved an expenditure of up to $200 for Studebaker's son to make the ramp.

• An estimate of a little more than $9,000 was given to "blacktop" the drive in front of the much-used recycling bins and the drive along the south side of the depot. Studebaker was instructed to get bids from more than one company.

Recycling bins are available in eight towns: Mentone - next to the railroad; Silver Lake - south of Ind. 14 and west of Ind. 15; Leesburg - east of Ind. 15; Milford - south of town on Ind. 15; Syracuse - behind Arthur's Market; North Webster - in Lance's Supermarket parking lot; and (coming soon) Pierceton - in the municipal parking lot.

Tire recycling is the first Saturday of each month, through October, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tires will be collected at the depot's north door during these times. Fees are $1.25 for car tires, $5 for truck tires and $15 for large tractor tires.

The KC Recycling Depot is at 220 S. Union St. in Warsaw.

Board members are Brad Jackson, Avis Gunter, Ron Truex, John Kinsey, George Clemens, David Delp and Ernie Wiggins. Wiggins was absent Tuesday. [[In-content Ad]]
